What is Merchant 911?
Merchant 911 is an "organization" of merchant
members who all believe in the same goals. We firmly believe that
if enough merchants band together, the credit card companies and
payment processors can be forced to change some of their procedures
and assume some of the risk of on-line transactions.
How did it come about?
Simple. The founder is a small business owner who was the victim of 15 fraudulent transactions that never would have happened had they been given enough information by our payment processor. In every case, the processor had led us to believe that they had taken reasonable steps to assure that the transactions were valid when, in fact, they had done nothing. The founder had 15 years of professional network experience and decided he wanted to help others prevent this from happening to them.
Why should I become a member?
- It costs nothing.
- You'll have access to tools and utilities to help you protect yourself.
- You'll get news of latest known fraud attempts against other merchants.
- There is strength in numbers.
- Your company and web site are listed on our pages.
- Logos (with links to us) for your site to let would-be fraudsters know you are alert.
If it's free, how will you survive?
Good question but we've been growing steadily since 2001. Costs
in dollars are minimal and we accept donations through (horror
of horrors) PayPal and we do have some affiliate links to the
merchant services that we consider are the best in the business.
The cost in time can be staggering. A few members have donated many hours of time doing research and coding the member area. As long as there are people willing to help we will keep on growing.
If you need a speaker on this subject and are willing to pay travel expenses and a stipend for the organization, I am available.
What about advertising, pop-ups, spam and all that?
Not in the member area! All membership information, services, and mailing lists are kept on the Merchant 911 server. Your information never leaves the site. We go to extreme lengths to make certain that your email address never appears anywhere except on something you send out on one of our locally hosted mailing lists that are totally restricted to members. You will never see advertising anywhere - not even from other members. Those who try are removed.
